Common bossman speaks

After several years bursting at the seams, in January 2010 the pressure finally became too much and we spilled over into next door. The resulting hernia we called The Kestrel Suite. We got the kitchen we’d always fancied, some cask ales, a big cellar and some more seats.
You all seemed to like the changes, since then we’ve been clinging on for dear life just trying to keep up with your needs, demanding as you are. But here we are another year drawing to a close, it’s a pleasure to see you all still enjoying the gaff after all these years, long may it continue. A toast to you all, you lovely people. *Vomit*
New Years Eve
A complete guide

You will probably be sick to the back teeth of people telling you how good their NYE party is going to be, well this is the third time we have mentioned it! Apologies.
We like to do things a bit differently at Common, especially during our new years party as it sort of ties in with our birthday celebrations! We will be six years old this January. So what better way than to invite Pumping Iron onboard to show us the ultimate party.
Shutters down, ticket only, gladiator themed dressing up, a glass of free Prosecco and plenty of surprises. Topped off with the best music around we guarantee an evening to remember. Tickets are only £10 with your shiny orange members card, £15 without.
You can find out more about Pumping Iron here and listen to their NYE mix here.
Thursdays Are The New Fridays
With Stop Making Sense

What a year it has been, so much so we’ve been getting our days mixed up! Thursdays are now becoming more popular than our weekend nights, and its all thanks to the chaps at Stop Making Sense.
SMS are Seb Valentine, Luke Warm and Benatronic, two of whom are members of Young British Artists and side project the Northern Quarter Boys Choir. An all star bearded line up of men, singing all time classics with a christmas theme. All in aide of Testicular Cancer, one carol service on Thomas St has already made £100 for charity. Catch the boys perform THIS Thursday in Common around 10pm.
Also on Thursday 30th December they will be giving away their seventh FREE mix CD which features : Sun City Girls, Brian Eno, Generic UK Funky, Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson, Aloe Blacc, Cosmiche-ass Krautrock, Michachu & Ghost Poet, Skeletal System, Mala, Lucky Dragons, Future Sounds Of London Sun Araw, Bodie Records and MORE.
A Gift For Your Loved Ones
Festive Hampers

Firstly, we would like to thank everyone for drinking the new brews we have had to offer this year.
We have been able to continue to extend the interesting beers we stock without them gathering dust in a corner of our fridge. We hope you have enjoyed them, because we have. The Christmas Hamper is now nearly sold out, it comes with expertly written tasting notes that will help you match them with festive food without feeling guilty. The hamper is also an exciting look into the not to distant future that points you in the direction of our new outlet; Port Street Beer House.
It promises to be a very special venture taking the best of the beer offerings in Common and applying some serious steroids to make the beefiest, brainiest, most dedicated beer list in Manchester.
We will let the beer speak for itself.
Top Five Best Moments
Only At Common

Here are our best bits of 2010, in no particular order:
1. The Kestrel Suite Opens
In tribute to a WMC function room, we opened and extension at the end of January, the run away success has been warmly received. Thanks.
2. Food, food and more food
Introducing new menus is never an easy task, but for one minute let’s blow our own trumpet and shout about how good our food is. YES! Full bellies all round.
3. Red Bull Music Academy
Debruit, Mount Kimbie, Kode 9, Steve Mason and Martyn all paid us a visit for a day of fun. Top notch.
4. An American Afternoon
Part of the MFDF we had lots of lovely food, drank wonderful beers and listened to talks from Vertical Drinks and CAMRA. All in aide of the U.S of A.
5. We win Manchester Food and Drink Award for ‘Best Bar’
Not that you need to be told that we are the best, but a piece of plastic reassures ‘the masses’ that we have something to say. ‘Bout time.
Thanks for all your support this year, all the best for the festive season, here’s to 2011 and beyond.
