Guardian Guide
A nice little piece

A couple of weeks ago Common was highlighted in the Manchester International Festival / Guardian supplement. Not sure if you saw it, but the article was glowing!
We don’t like to blow our own trumpet, but when it says ‘Arguably the best bar in Manchester’ I do think we need to rejoice in the fact! It’s always nice to have something in print in the national press.
Tony Naylor who wrote the piece, clearly likes the Common ways. You can read the article in full here, it also mentions some of our favourite places like The Castle and The Kings Arms. Tony obviously has fine taste. Just a shame the map isn’t actually correct. Oh well we can’t all be perfect?
Artwork for sale
Dave Bailey and PIN

As well as our ‘good beer, interesting music and proper home-cooked food’ we like to be known as an art space, a lot of time and effort goes into planning the exhibitions. Supporting the arts in the best way we can, the work is hand picked and specially commissioned, hosting six exhibitions a year, three in the kestrel suite and three in the main bar.
You can currently see work from David Bailey and Paul Hemmingfield (PIN). Both have lots of pieces of work for sale, so please bob in have yourself a drink, soak up the artwork and then purchase a piece or two. Exclusive prints, t-shirts and totes are available starting from only £6, all limited edition and only available at Common.
If you can’t make it down in person you can view the work online here.
Port Street News
American Beer Festival

There’s a lot going on at our sister bar, Port Street Beer House, so much so we have decided to include a section in the newsletter. Starting on Monday 27th June PSBH will be having its first festival. They will be celebrating ‘Uncle Sam’s finest, the most creative craft brewing scene in the world’, also know as the U S of A.
There will be an opening event with the ‘Port Street Beer School’ which includes talks, exclusive tastings and lots of fun. This will be a ticketed event for just 60 people, tickets will be on sale next week. They are also having an American BBQ, if you came to Common’s ‘American Afternoon’ last year you will know what to expect!
On offer throughout the festival there will be cask, draught and bottles from Anchor, Brooklyn, Caldera, Coronado, Dogfish, Flying Dog, Goose Island, Great Divide, Indigo Imp, Kona, Left Hand, Maui, Odell, Rouge, Saranac, Sierra Nevada, Sudwerk, Uinta & Victory. The festival runs until the selected beers have gone!
Opening event / Monday 27th June – 6pm : Port Street Beer School American Beer Tasting – ticketed event (see website for details)
Sunday 3rd July : An American BBQ, beers, burgers, mega sausages and possibly sunshine.

Stain(s) by Cherry Tenneson
North Tea Power, Tib St, Manchester

Someone called Rob Bailey is in charge of the art exhibitions at one of our favourite hang outs, North Tea Power. Following on from the success of their first exhibition ‘Fell’, the second is ‘Stain(s)’, featuring new work by Manchester based Cherry Tenneson, self proclaimed ‘artist – cartographer’ of redundant objects and information.
The artist has selected and produced over twenty new ‘desk-maps’ which primarily reference tea stains, all of which will be available to buy as archival giclee prints throughout the duration of the show, which runs until the 15th July.
Alongside these desk maps, Tenneson will also produce a site specific piece at North tea power, which will include documentation of stains occurring whilst sat at one of their tables drinking tea. The artist will be producing this work from midday until 6pm on the day of the exhibition preview (10th June), please feel free to go along and discuss the work with her as she makes it.
