Eggs, Cakes, Others

Greetings from the Common sett. How are things with you? In this week’s newsletter you can find information about an exciting exhibition by the design company Teacake, who take over BOTH of our venues!

We bid farewell to a trusty member of the badger family and we introduce a resurrected section from our old website, inventively called ‘Meanwhile, Elsewhere In Manchester’. It does exactly what it says on the tin, an informative piece on events in and around the Manchester area!

We hope you enjoy.

Stay Warm

Eggs No Soldiers / A Pint Of Mixed
A Teacake Exhibition

From March 1st our good friends Teacake Design will be exhibiting a special collection of photographs taken by the late Tom Culley. Split over two venues, this installation of large-scale images offers a glimpse into the varied pastimes of one man and his closest companions. Teacake are well known for their expert design skills and we are really excited to be showcasing a photography exhibition by two designers and a collection of long lost photos.

Discovered inadvertently, these images taken from a collection of over 5000 meticulously cherished slides portray life through the eyes of an accomplished amateur photographer. Always fascinated by the colourful antics of ordinary people enjoying extraordinary activities this perspective is both personal and insightful. Only ever before seen as part of a good old-fashioned slide show these are nostalgic, heart-warming and often-humorous portraits of life as it happened.

Tom’s passion for photography was simple; his aim was to preserve the funniest, most charming, most special and most poignant moments in order to share them with his loved ones. Both exhibitions launch at the start of next month.

Eggs No Soldiers& other unseen moments captured by the late Tom Culley - Exhibition opening night on Thursday 1st March 2012 – 6.00pm at Common and continues until 21st July 2012

Followed by ‘A Pint Of Mixed’ & other unseen moments captured by the late Tom Culley / Opening night – Thursday 1st March 2012 – 7.30pm onwards at Port Street Beer House and continues until late July 2012

From The Kitchen
To The Classroom

It comes with great sadness that we say goodbye to a valued member of staff, this week sees the departure of Clare Gilligan, one of our Common cooks.

We will dearly miss her ‘sexy dream stories’ about Iwan, tales of dog walking and informative episodes about her other halves snoring exercises!

Good luck Clare on your next steps in the world of teaching, we hope our paths will cross again. Missing you already!
