We WERE Closed
#commondayout

For those on Monday who were left without their ‘second home’ or favourite drinking place, sincere apologies, we needed a short break. The whole of Common AND Port Street Beer House were closed for the day.

The treat for the staff was a magical mystery trip with tour guide, Jonathan ‘the’ Heyes. We were whisked off to the beautiful ‘village’ of Bakewell for a riverside picnic, in which a packed lunch competition was held. Winners included Will Astbury’s and Tony Boffey’s picnic hamper of tasty treats, Iwan Robert’s rustic cooking on a camp stove and Ciara Tracy’s delightful home made scotch quails eggs! Tasty.

Next stop was a wonderful visit to the Thornbridge Brewery, we were given a guided tour and sampled some of their lovely beers. We also got the chance to visit Thornbridge Hall, which is the original site for the brewery, the gardens and grounds of which are simply stunning! After a short sight seeing stop off we all went to PSBH for a meaty BBQ and more beers! The night ended with Mr Paul Jones doing a trick with a sausage, we have video evidence which we will post up later.

Many thanks to Jonny and Charlotte for being great bosses and taking us on a wonderful trip! Cheers!

New For Wednesdays
As Yet Untitled

Sorry to be the bearer of sad news, but Pull Yourself Together will be leaving us at the end of the month. So we are giving them their own special news piece in the next newsletter – giving you a full insight into their departure! (Insert sad face icon here)

When one door closes, another door opens. We are currently putting together a suitable replacement, at the time of press this will be very much like our Saturday night ‘Friends In Common’ but with a slightly skewed perception, peppered with an indie pop vibe.

We have coaxed the lovely people of Manchester band Patterns to be one of the new residents, plus blogger to the stars Matthew Britton (aka Pigeon Post) and not forgetting of very our own Emma Tillyer from Under Achievers Please Try Harder, who will be stepping up to the prestigious wood chip DJ booth from August onwards.

The DJs are now booked but we don’t have a name for the night. If you have any suggestions for what we should call the fortnightly session, then please drop us a line.

Port Street Beer School
Meet The Brewer with special guests Summer Wine Brewery

PSBH’s first official ‘Meet The Brewer’ event takes place at the end of this month. Summer Wine Brewery will be holding an informative yet informal chat, you’ll also have an opportunity to sample some of their wonderful beers. This will be an exclusive launch of their Summer of Saison with their first beer in the series being Lime & Coriander Saison on Keg. Also on cask we will have Valencia (pale ale), Rouge Hop, Teleporter (10 Malt Porter) and more.

Summer Wine Brewery are made up of Andy Baker (Managing Director) & James Farran (Head Brewer) based in Holmfirth, they have well over nine years experience of creating some of the best beers around, even if they are from Yorkshire! So join us for a intimate event of amazing beer and friendly people.
