Attitude
Plenty of Attitude

National press doesn’t come around every day. So it was a pleasant surprise to see so many of our friends, associates and work colleagues in this months Attitude magazine.
The issue focused on all the great events and nights happening in Manchester’s gay scene and features our very own Alex Humphreys and Andrew Bailey from Pumping Iron, who are ‘bridging the gap between straight and gay in the ever burgeoning Northern Quarter’ – YES!
Common was quoted as a place for ‘drinks and winks’, good job they spelt the second bit right. It was also an honour and a pleasure to see Islington Mill represented so well, with a very nice photo featuring the full team which includes Miss Rivca Burns, who also works part time for Common and Port Street. Go Riv!
It’s really nice to see your friends and work colleagues represented in a national magazine. So proud.

Our new wall

When we have eight exhibitions a year, it’s quite hard for the next people involved to fill those big boots left by Fon The Pern. But once again a collective of very good artists have stepped up and raised the bar once again!
The outside wall was painted last Saturday and involved DXTR and Low Bros from Germany with Mr Gauky and Mr Penfold represented the UK. There was a great atmosphere on the day, with plenty of new and old faces coming down to hang out have a drink and take it all in. Special thanks go out to Dirty Face from Sheffield for making this happen and Matt Saunders (Rabbit Portal) for documenting the occasion, I think there is a film to follow.
If you haven’t see our outside wall yet, then why the hell not? Maybe due to the fact that there are still builders working on the space behind us, but they are promising to move this Friday, so you can gawp at it all it’s glory.
In the meantime you can look at some photos of the wall HERE

Meet The Brewer with Red Willow

The ever growing success of PSBH’s sell out ‘Meet The Brewer’ events is a great sign of the current excitement around the UK brewing industry. A fitting tribute to the people that devote a lot of their time to making wonderful brews to throw down your neck.
At the end of September Port Street welcomes Tony Mckenzie from Macclesfield’s Red Willow Brewery. His passionate ways and wealth of experience have brought you such beers as Headless, Directionless, Smokeless and Ageless. Some have even made their way onto the Common guest pumps.
The events are limited to 50 people and give you an opportunity to taste some exclusive beers whilst learning a bit about the brewing process involved. This will also see the launch of Ports Street’s ‘Euro-toberfest’, so maybe expect a lovely blonde or two?!?! We will have more details about the month long event soon.
Meanwhile get your tickets NOW for the next Meet The Brewer which takes place on Monday 26th September at 6pm, tickets are £8 advance (available from PSBH)
Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th September
N4 Loves U

As part of the I Love MCR campaign, the Northern Quarter businesses and Manchester City Council are hosting a two-day free festival called ‘N4 Loves U’ on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September 2011 from midday until 9pm each day.
The festival is centred around the Northern Quarter area, including various venues and pedestrianised streets. The roads will be shut to traffic, so only come on your push bikes. There will be music stages, four pop-up bars and thirty acts performing across the weekend. Afflecks will also be running a vintage market. Street party style picnic tables and benches will run along Thomas Street, Tib Street and Edge Street. Common will be running a fully stocked indoor bar, with the usual glorious food, lovely drinks and tasty treats available to enjoy indoors or to take away. For the authentic festival vibe we will be using plastic glasses to aid your festival experience listening to music in the rain.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day across three stages including an acoustic stage, an indie stage and a DJ stage featuring Mr Scruff who will headline on Sunday. Entry is free but buckets will be at the gateways collecting money for the I Love MCR designated charities – Forever Manchester and Reclaim.
