Greetings!

A bumper packed newsletter for you this week.

Famous members of staff leaving, parties a plenty, merchandise coming out of our ears, mulled wine, festive food specials and decorations a plenty, it must be December!

Wrap up, dig in and join us for a very busy month.

Work Safely – W. Badger

2005 – 2011
Paul James Jones

We are saddened to see our longest standing member of staff leave us at the end of this week, Mr Paul James Jones has become some what of a Common staple over the past seven years. Calling someone part of the furniture maybe an insult to some, but Common will not be the same without him.

As you can see from the picture to the right Mr Jones was but a pup when we took him under our wing. He will surely be missed, who will come up with all the witty comments on everyday life, also know as ‘Joneisms’. Who will people write about on the toilet walls? (PS. We suggest you don’t do this anymore!) Who will replace that Salford twang we have grown so used to?

A full newsletter could be written about Paul Jones, but we don’t want to feed his ego too much! Lots of love and hugs being sent out via the inter-tube, good luck sir on your travels. God bless Paul James Jones and all who sail in him.

Wednesday 21st December
Christmas Quiz

As institutions go, Common Knowledge is one not to be missed. Especially when tarted up in it’s Christmas finery, replete with all things festive, nipples adourned with gleaming baubles.

Wednesday 21st December sees Mr Christopher Higson and Master John Ruane pull out all the stops and make this THE quiz of the year, no pressure! We encourage you to dress up (a Santa hat will do), make merry and bring your friends. It all begins at 7.30pm and we have been promised a performance from The Northern Quarter Boys Choir.

The NQBC will be singing ‘popular’ Christmas hits for your pleasure, all in the name of charity. They won’t be disturbing your much needed concentration, more like adding to the general atmosphere of an over stimulated children’s party.

Saturday 31st December
Just Another Night

We have decided to throw a good old knees up this New Years Eve, entitled ‘Just Another Night’. Tailor-made for those who like to make party, but don’t want to sell a kidney to do so! The night in question will entail a minimal door fee, great music, fantastic friends and a complimentary glass of bubbly as the clock strikes midnight.

DJs on the night will be Neil Atkins and ESqueezy supplying the ‘non stop party hits’. They have proved themselves to be the ‘cream of the crop’ at Common and we hope to provide the best house party you can have in a bar.

There will be no advance tickets, it will be £3 after 8pm and we will be open from 6pm until around 2am. Basically there’s no fuss, no bother, just good times. Bring your friends and hang with us for the evening.

Just Another Night / Saturday 31st December – 6pm until 2am

£3 door after 8pm (no advance tickets – just pay on the door / includes free glass of bubbly at midnight!)

Saturday 31st December
Port Street Beer House

If Common is not your cup of tea on New Year’s Eve, then maybe our sister bar may have the answer!

The upstairs saloon of Port Street Beer House will be available for table reservations on NYE. Tables will be booked out for a minimum of four people and bookings will be reserved with a £10 deposit per person. This deposit will be returned to you on the night in the form of a bar tab. For example, if you book a table for four people, you’ll need to leave £40 deposit but on the night you’ll have a £40 bar tab set up waiting for you.

They have a limited number of tables so put in a booking request and providing they can accommodate your group they will be in touch to arrange the deposit. In addition to the table booking you can also pre book a special bottle or two for your group or a cheese board which will be brought to you at your table.

The downstairs bar at Port Street will be open as usual all night so you can choose whether to mingle around or hang out with your group upstairs. Service will be until 1am (ish).

NYE at Port Street Beer House / 4pm until 1am (ish)

- Table reservation / £10 per person (redeemable bar tab)
- Duvel magnum, large bottles and cheese boards for table reservations £TBC

Please email dunk@aplacecalledcommon.co.uk with your name, contact number and how many people you would like to book for. We will get back to ASAP with a booking form.
