Thursday 29th September – 6pm
‘Lost In Youth’ by Kristian Jones

Kristian Jones is a freelance illustrator / artist living in the centre of the UK just outside of sunny Birmingham, producing work for magazines and clothing ranges, along with working for various bands and clubnights on the Birmingham music scene crafting posters and artwork of an alternative nature.

His style preys on the innocence of childhood imagination, surreal worlds and fictional creatures.

Common hosts Kristian’s first ever solo show titled ‘Lost In Youth’ a combination of fine art works and street art paste ups, exploring childhood fears and emotions addled by a world of fast food and materialism.

Kris will have limited prints, totes and t-shirts for sale throughout the exhibition. For further updates on the show and further works please head over to: www.kristian-jones.co.uk

Exhibition launch Thursday 29th September 2011 / 6pm until 9pm

Free drinks supplied by Finlandia AND limited edition postcard for the first 100 people through the door.

Thursday 6th October – 6pm
Adam Mead – Kestrel Suite photography exhibition

We are very saddened to be taking down Paul Hemmingfield’s work, if you haven’t purchased one of his excellent screen-prints, then now is your last chance, as you have three weeks left. You can view his amazing work here, prints are available to purchase from the bar. As always at Common when one door closes another opens.

Next month we will be launching new photography from Adam Mead, whom we ‘spotted’ at 2010′s MMU Photography exhibition. His portrait work stood out a mile, we are very happy to have him on board displaying his lovely work in the Kestrel Suite. He and his camera have been gate crashing weird and wonderful British conventions, spending (probably too much) time staring at people’s faces and collaborating with other Manchester artists. He has exhibited in London and the Northwest.

This work encompasses bee keepers, clocks and some of the best portrait work we have witnessed. All the work will be for sale, so come and grab your self a piece of Adam Mead

Sunday 9th October – 4pm
Auchentoshan & Tramp presents

A Sunday afternoon of wonderful whisky and amazing music, courtesy of DJ sets from JD Twitch (Optimo), Luke Unabomber (Electric Chair), Will (Tramp!) and Stop Making Sense.

Optimo, the now legendary Sunday night party at the Sub Club in Glasgow, is one of the most successful long-running leftfield nights in the world. Hosted by veteran Glasgow DJs, JD Twitch and JG Wilkes, Optimo has its own way of doing things: the night doesn’t book DJs, it books live acts, a policy which has seen the likes of Richie Hawtin, Lee Scratch Perry, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip and even Grace Jones squeeze through it’s doors. Nowadays Twitch and Wilkes are a bit of a roadshow too, taking Optimo to Japan, New York and Europe as well as across the UK to spread the Glasgow love around.

If that isn’t enough there will be a unique whisky tasting event starting at 4pm in the Kestrel Suite, this is free entry, so arrive early!
