14th December 2011
Hello!

How are you all doing?
Nice to see you around these parts, I know you will be probably rushing around buying gifts for your loved ones at this festive season. If you are wondering what I would like for Christmas, then all I ask, is for you to look after each other throughout the dark winter nights.
Wrap up warm, make sure you get home safe and drink responsibly, preferably in your favourite local tavern.
Hope you all have a good Christmas.
Work safe.

Edge Street’s Finest Quiz
Common Knowledge

The quiz has been going from strength to strength this year, so we decided to let the quiz masters have a few words: “First off we’d like to thank everyone who has come to Common Knowledge this year. We’ve had a great time dishing out knowledge to you all and we hope you’ve enjoyed absorbing it.
This year has seen our mystery final round hit new heights with our ‘Snatch or Dash’ Manchester riot game, ‘what’s behind Christian Bale’s Beard’ and personal favourite, ‘the life size Operation game’.
Our Halloween Special was another huge success. Big props to quizmaster John for raising the bar again this year with our Beetlejuice costumes. Not see them yet? Check out www.facebook.com/commonknowledgequiz for the pictures. You can also follow the quiz on Twitter @HiggyRascal.
We have our Christmas Special coming up on Wednesday 21st December, so why not come along, grab yourself a mulled wine and see if Santa has left you anything under the Common Christmas tree. We’ll have a festive selection of questions, games and prizes laid on for you as well as a very special live carol service from those lovely lads, the Northern Quarter Boys Choir.
Hope to see many of you there!”
All the very best

Big Balls
All in the name of charity

Northern Quarter Boys Choir are a ‘super group’ made up from the local ‘waifs and strays’, including artists, musicians and beardy barmen, they come together at Christmas to spread joy through the medium of song. The choir was set up as as a bit of fun, an excuse to have a good sing-song after having a few shandies in crimbo jumpers, oh and they also like to raise money for charity.
Their set list this year includes traditional hits like, ‘Walking in The Air’, ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘Let It Snow’ but they will also be performing a couple of other songs like ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ and ‘The Shoop Shoop Song’ by Cher.
The choir will be raising money for men’s cancer charity ‘Everyman’ and have set up a Just Giving account so you can donate online. Most importantly you can see them in person at the dates below and give some pennies throughout. Last year they managed to raise £410, this year they would like to raise £1000, so please dig deep!

Just Another Night

You may have recently noticed our fabulous posters pictured to the right, they are a ‘clever campaign’ to advertise our New Year’s Eve party, entitled ‘Just Another Night’. Tailor-made for those who like to make party, but don’t want to sell a kidney to do so! The night in question will entail a minimal door fee, great music, fantastic friends and a complimentary glass of bubbly as the clock strikes midnight.
DJs on the night will be Neil Atkins and ESqueezy supplying the ‘non stop party hits’. They have proved themselves to be the ‘cream of the crop’ at Common and we hope to provide the best house party you can have in a bar.
There will be no advance tickets, it will be £3 after 8pm and we will be open from 6pm until around 2am. Basically there’s no fuss, no bother, just good times. Bring your friends and hang with us for the evening.
Just Another Night / Saturday 31st December – 6pm until 2am
£3 door after 8pm (no advance tickets – just pay on the door / includes free glass of bubbly at midnight!)
Wishing you
All the best

Finally we would like to say thanks for all your support this year, it’s been a really good one. There have been many ups and downs for plenty of reasons, but all in all we keep pushing on.
2011 has seen our sister bar Port Street Beer House make massive steps with her own spirited independence. The food at Common has been as popular as ever, with the special board becoming essential daily viewing. Our musical roster of Frietags, Friends In Common, Pumping Iron, Haxan, Stop making Sense and Tears For Ears have kept the party going through the evenings.
The ever changing artwork has been a real eye opener this year, with Kris Jones, David Bailey and Rabbit Portal all exceeding themselves in their respected fields.
So what will 2012 bring? Who knows? If it’s anything like this year then we are super excited. We would be nothing without all our lovely customers, thank you so much for your continued support and give yourself a pat on the back.
All the best for the festive season and beyond.
With love from Common x
