PIN exhibition launch

This Thursday the Kestrel Suite welcomes the ever talented Mr Paul Hemmingfield. He runs an exciting design agency called PIN. You may recognise his work from the Warehouse Project, Parklife, The Deaf Institute and most importantly, the newsletter you are reading and our ever glowing website!
Paul has exhibited his work in the main bar space way back in May 2008, you can see more here. This time around he has adapted some of his well know work into a screenprinted poster exhibition.
You can be the first to see this TOMORROW from 6pm, all the work is available to purchase and is in limited numbers. Come down for a free pint of ale and amaze yourself with his outstanding work.

Flesh And Bone by Dave Bailey

Flesh & Bone is a weekly comic strip by Manchester illustrator David Bailey. A comic strip about not much at all, featuring a skeleton and a fat man – the original unoriginal odd couple! Flesh & Bone will be taking over the walls of Common and airing their dirty launder publicly in this exhibition, their biggest outing to date. Expect black and white en masse, wordplay, pattern, repetition and numerous attempts at being funny.
David Bailey has been making gig posters, record covers and comics in and around Manchester since 2004. One half of illustration duo, Mount Pleasant, with Lucy Jones, “Flesh & Bone” will be the biggest solo exhibition of Bailey’s work thus far. Self-publisher of comics such as Vitamins & Exercise (Tom Cruise homage), RockNRolla (an imagined retelling of Guy Ritchie’s film), Characters of Manchester (a document of frequently seen local human landmarks) and Marks and Spencers Sponsors Mark Ronson (an Austin Powers type imagining of Mark Ronson’s day to day). Bailey also runs the smallpress comic and zine shop, Good Grief! in Manchester’s northern quarter.
Bailey’s work has been used regularly in the Guardian and NME and featured in books such as The Art of Modern Rock, Dirty Fingernails, 1,000 Indie Posters and Best of Disc Art 1.
- Launch party Thursday 26th May / 6pm at Common – free ltd postcard and drinks on arrival for the first 100 people.
Public Information Notice
Keep An Eye Out

Yes, even within the warm and safe surrounds of Common, dirty, dirty thieving scroats have been known to take a shine to your stuff and take it home with them. They don’t even have the decency to always look like the scum that they are so you can never be too careful.
There’s a new scam going around the northern quarter of ‘bogus flyer’ people entering bars and approaching customers sat at tables to show them a flyer. Whilst they distract you, they are stealing items left on your table. Simple yet effective. We don’t let anybody hand out flyers within our premises, so be on your guard.
Please use your noodle and don’t leave those iPhones, manbags, laptop cases and vintage purses lying around whilst you nip to the bar/to the loo/for a cig. If you see anyone acting a bit dodgy just let the bar staff know.
